One claims that the scriptures are clear that only those who are faithful will be availed of the power of the Ransom. What would this mean? As presented, it would mean that there would be no resurrection of the unjust, no resurrection of judgment, for any who were not faithful, since, according to the statement, the ransom would evidently not benefit any except those who are faithful.
While it is true in this age that only those who have faith in the ransom sacrifice of Jesus can avail of the age to come (Hebrews 6:5) so as appropriate the benefits of ransom ahead of the world, there is nothing in the scriptures at all that means that the world will not benefit from the ransom by being raised in the last day for judgment. If "only" those who believe in this age can benefit from the ransom, then all the promises in the Bible of a coming day of judgment for the world of mankind are null and void, and there will be only the resurrection of the justified in the resurrection of life, and no resurrection of unjust in resurrection of judgment. The truth is, however, the salvation given through the blood of Jesus includes, not just those who believe, but also those who do not believe.
John 3:17
For God didn't send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
John 5:28
Don't marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,
John 5:29
and will come forth; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
If the salvation by means of Jesus' ransom is only available to those who believe in this age, then all Jesus could have spoken would have been the resurrection of those believers, and there would be no resurrection of judgment for the unbeliver.
John 12:47
If anyone listens to my sayings, and doesn't believe, I don't judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
John 12:48
He who rejects me, and doesn't receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke, the same will judge him in the last day. -- World English Bible translation.
Here Jesus shows that the salvation he is providing does indeed include the unbeliever, and he shows that the unbeliever will thus be raised for judgment in the last day. However, they could not be raised in the last day had it not been for their being released from Adamic death in that last day, and they could not be released from Adamic death except that Jesus died for them also.
John shows this, saying:
1 John 2:2 - And he is the atoning sacrifice for our [we who walk in the light -- 1 John 1:; children of God -- 1 John 2:1] sins, and not for ours [we who walk in the light -- 1 John 1:7] only, but also for the whole world.
Yes, in this age, only those who believe in Christ (John 3:16) have authority to reach into the age to come (Hebrews 6:5) so as to obtain the regeneration that belongs to that age. (Matthew 19:28; Titus 3:5) That regeneration of the world in the age to come is due to the offering of the blood of Christ for, not only the believer, but also for the whole world of unbelievers. Thus, the one who believes in this age will not be judged with the world in that age to come. Those who do not believe are already judged (as the apostle Paul shows, in Adam's transgression -- Romans 5:18,19); thus, since they do not believe the judgment in Adam, and God's wrath through that condemnation, remains upon them. (John 3:36) In this age, only those who believe are reckoned as justified and alive before God, although Jesus' ransom sacrifice provides justification to all men who are dying in Adam. Nothing in any of the scriptures means that the unbelievers will not be raised in the last day for judgment as the scriptures promise; nor can they be raised in the last day except that they receive the benefit of the ransom sacrifice of Jesus that provides a new day of regeneration for the world. Thus, Paul writes, "through one act of righteousness, all men were justified to life." -- Romans 5:18.
