Jesus answered him, "Get behind me Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" -- Luke 4:8, World English; see also Matthew 4:10.
Many have made the claim that in some way Jesus was saying here that worship should be given to Jesus, and him alone. It is strange how people read such into a verse in which Jesus was obviously speaking of Yahweh as his own God, rather than of himself as being the Yahweh of Deuteronomy 6:13.
In Luke 4:8, Jesus was not telling Satan that he (Jesus) was Yahweh God and that Satan should worship Jesus. Jesus quoted the Law Covenant; the "your" refers to the children of Israel. Jesus himself was born under the Law; Satan was not. Jesus was speaking of himself as being under the Law: that he (Jesus) being of the children of Israel, was not to bow down to another god who was in opposition to his God, Yahweh.
