In the beginning was the LOGOS, and the LOGOS was with TON THEON, and the LOGOS was theos.” — John 1:1; transliterations obtained from Westcott & Hort Interlinear
Jesus, before he became Jesus, was indeed the LOGOS of God, a mighty one (theos), before the beginning of the world of mankind that the only true God made through the Logos. -- John 1:3,10; 17:1,3,5.
Genesis 1:3 - God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.
"God" here is one person or individual, as can be seen from the phrase "spirit of God" in Genesis 1:2. There is no indication that ELOHIM here was speaking to the one John wrote of as bearing the title of the "Word of God", but we do read that God created the world of mankind through the Logos. (John 1:3,10) Thus, it is possible that the unipersonal God was indeed speaking to his firstborn creature (Colossians 1:15) in Genesis 1:3.
The creation of "light" here does not mean that there was no light before this, but rather the "light" being referred to is the physical "light" on the planet earth.
Nor does "light" here mean "light" in the sense that John wrote, "God is light"; otherwise, it would mean that there was a time when God was not light, but darkness.
Nor does "light" here mean the same thing as "light" in John 1:4-7; 8:12; 9:5, since the Logos did not become the "lght" of men, the light of the world, until after he became flesh, and was in the world that God made through him. -- John 1:10,14; 9:5.
