Psalm 45:6,7 Isaiah 45:6 Your throne, God [ELOHIM], is forever and ever. A scepter of equity is the scepter of your kingdom. Isaiah 45:7 You have loved righteousness, and hated wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows.
One of the favorite scriptures trinitarians and some others like to quote to support the idea that Jesus is Yahweh is Psalm 45:6, where it is claimed that Jesus is called "God". Some translators dispute that the anointed one is being called ELOHIM in verse six. Assuming, however, that the above is correct, and that the anoined one (Messiah, Christ) is being called ELOHIM in verse six, this would have to be in the sense of his being anointed above his fellows. In other words, Jesus is has might, power greater than his fellows. This takes into consideration that forms of the Hebrew word EL have the basic meaning of strength, might, power, and is many times used of others than Yahweh as designating such might or power, not as being the Almighty Yahweh, but as having received might, power, or authority, from Yahweh. Since the anointed one is anointed by another who is ELOHIM, the ELOHIM who anointed is definitely greater than he who was anointed. Isaiah 61:1 identifies the ELOHIM who anointed the Messiah as being one person, Yahweh.
