John 8:44 - You are out of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you are willing to do. That one was a killer of humans from the beginning, and he did not stand in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he may speak a lie, he speaks out of his own lust, for he is a liar, and the father of it. -- Restoration Light Improved Version
The above words were spoken to the Jewish religious leaders of his day. Most will recognize that Jesus is speaking of Satan's original lie to Eve, and how this lie has brought death upon mankind. (Genesis 3:1-5; Romans 5:12-19) Satan was once "in the truth", but he did not "stand" therein. His own ambition led him into formulating a plan, and a lie. Jesus told the religious leaders of his day that they had Satan as their father, since they sought to kill the Son of God, wishing to carry out the ambitions of Satan, and with ambitions like Satan's. What about today? Are there "Christian" religious leaders who, in effect, would like to kill the true Son of God, who would promote another Jesus, so that their own ambitions in this world may be realized? Yes, indeed, there are many, indeed, we would say that most who are preaching in the name of Jesus are, to some extent, following the father of lies. Jesus speaks of many these when he said: "Many will say to me in that day: 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by your name, and by your name cast out demons, and by your your name do many mighty works?' And then I will profess to them: 'I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work that which is unlawful.'" (Matthew 7:22,23, RLIV; See also Matthew 24:24) Yes, these do many things, even miracles, in the name of Jesus, but their motives and ambitions are not fully subjected to the will of Yahweh. This application does not speak of any one "Christian" denomination, or "Christian" religious group, as opposed to another "Christian" denomination, or "Christian" religious group. (2 Corinthians 11:3) Each one of us, as an individual Christian, has to bring his/her own ambitions, hopes, desires, in harmony with the will of the God and Father of Jesus, that we might receive the Master's "Well done". -- Matthew 25:21,23.
