Deuteronomy 32:39 'See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded and it is I who heal, And there is no one who can deliver from My hand. -- New American Standard.
Some quote the above verse and claim that since there is only one who is GOD, and since Jesus is also GOD, then Jesus must be Yahweh (Jehovah).
There is only "one God" who is the source of all; Jesus, although he is GOD -- MIGHTY, is NOT the "one God" who is the source of all. (John 17:1,3; 1 Corinthians 8:6)
Likewise, angels are GOD -- MIGHTY -- in the bodily glory that they possess which is higher than that of the glory of man. -- Psalm 8:4,5; 1 Corinthians 15:39-41; Hebrews 2:6-8.
There there is also the GOD -- MIGHT, STRENGTH, POWER -- of one's hand. -- Genesis 31:29; Deuteronomy 28:32; Proverbs 3:27.

The usage of forms of the Hebrew word for GOD is not limited just to the Most High, or false gods.

One should therefore not take Deuteronomy 32:39 in isolation, but one should view that scripture in harmony with other scriptures; the word often translated as "besides" or "with" can also be translated as "against." In view of many others scriptures in which other than Yahweh are declared to be gods -- mighty ones (e.g., Exodus 7:1; Psalm 8:5 (Hebrews 2:7); Psalm 82:16 (John 10:34-36), one should view the meaning of "besides" as meaning gods that are claimed to be of another source than Yahweh, who is the only God who is the source of all.
