For many years now the event and purpose of Armageddon has been misunderstood. Because of this, it is continually used as a threat of fear to bring believers into line by stating that if one is not a believer and on the right side when this event occurs; all will be lost for those individuals. In other words, all are being subjected to the great deception!
CHRISTENDOM’S DECEPTION!
One of the worst teachings of Christendom is the sectarian construction which has been put upon that word “believe.” To the Catholics it means to believe the teachings of the Catholic Church. To the various Protestant groups it means the acceptance of their particular interpretation of truth and how to practice it. To all and sundry it means, “Come with us, and do it before you die, or you will be forever lost”—or at least suffer for hundreds of years in a terrible purgatory of torment, as the Catholic Church teaches.
This concept of the Gospel has replaced love with fear as an incentive to believe and obey, and for this there is no scriptural authorization. There is no evidence anywhere in the Bible that the opportunity to obtain salvation through Christ is limited to this present life. In fact, we are advised by the Apostle Paul that there will be a general resurrection of ‘all’ mankind on the ‘last day’ of God’s Great Sabbath on which he is still resting. (Acts 24:15; John 6:54; John 11:24)
So what is the correct understanding of this event and how does it fit into God’s Divine Plan?
In preparing us for the many events portrayed to occur during the ‘last generation’ of this present world order, Jesus included a period which he described as the ‘great tribulation’ which is a global event of such magnitude that unless ‘cut-short’ no flesh on the planet will be saved; mankind and all on it will be wiped out!
So to begin with, Armageddon is an area which covers the whole of the earth and extends to the lower heavens. All the nations will be gathered to this as the ‘great tribulation’ begins to take its toll. (Matthew 24:21) This action by the angelic forces will result in the incarceration of Satan and the termination of the ‘great tribulation’. (Revelation 20:1, 2)
So far from the conception imposed by many, that Armageddon is an event to be feared; Armageddon is actually the ‘instrument’ by which the ‘great tribulation’ will be terminated and the way cleared for the kingdom of God to spread its active influence of peace, happiness and joy as the dead of mankind as far back as Adam are resurrected and brought up to human perfection in preparation for the realization of the opportunity of everlasting life on the earth under perfect conditions.
