1 John 5:17 - All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.
John indicates that for the regenerated child of God, there are two kinds of sin, one that leads to death, and another that does not lead to death. Evidently, John is speaking of sin of the new creature versus sin of the old creature. If the new creature, with accurate knowledge, commits a sin, there is no more another sacrifice to cover such a sin, and thus it results in the death of the new creature. (Hebrews 10:26) If, however, the Christian commits a sin due to weakness of the present sinful flesh, that sin does not lead to death, as it is covered by the blood of Jesus.
