Did Russell sell substandard wheat which he called "Miracle Wheat"?
It is being claimed that Russell was a conman, "selling wheat that he called 'miracle' wheat that was actually substandard."
My response:
Since Russell never sold any wheat, the above distorts what actually happened. Russell neither sold the wheat, nor did he originate the term "miracle wheat" for Stoner's wheat. Many farmers, however, testified in court of the veracity of Stoner's claims for the wheat. One person testified and claimed to report regarding some government tests. I do not know if the "government" tests actually followed Stoner's instructions for the wheat, but it appears that they did not. Nevertheless, possibly due to the government reports, farmers who used Stoner's wheat evidently stopped following Stoner's instructions, and thus Stoner's wheat faded away. The later "Miracle Wheat" was discovered by Norman Borlaug, who received a Nobel prize for his work.
