{John 5:17} But Jesus answered them, "My Father is still working, so I am working, too." {John 5:18} For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called TON THEON his own Father, making himself equal with TO THEO.
It is being claimed that John stated that Jesus is God (the Supreme Being.)
John, in his report of Jews' legal "cause" to kill Jesus, does not state that Jesus was actually guilty of breaking the sabbath, or that Jesus was making himself equal with TO THEO. The Jews' legal cause was that Jesus was a sinner man -- a breaker of the Law -- making himself out to be equal with To Theo.
Jesus did not actually break God's law concerning the sabbath, as those Jews claimed, nor was he a sinner man, as those Jews claimed, making himself out to be the equal to the Supreme Being, as John was presenting their alleged "cause: to seek to kill him. Indeed, if Jesus was equal to the Supreme Being, that would mean that there are two Supreme Beings, both equal to each other.
