2 Peter 1:1 – Did Peter Say Jesus is God Almighty?
2 Peter 1:1 has been translated in several different ways. Some insist that Peter refers to Jesus as "our God and Savior." Others claim that Peter did not refer to Jesus as "God." Some ancient manuscripts do not have "God" but rather "our Lord and Savior." If Peter wrote "our Lord and Savior," it is obvious that this would not mean that Peter meant to present Jesus as being Jehovah. Regardless as to whether Peter meant that the Greek word often transliterated as "theos" (meaning "god, mighty one, etc.) to be applied to Jesus or not, however, there is nothing in the verse that actually means that we need to imagine and assume that Peter meant that Jesus is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. There is certainly nothing here (or any where else in the Bible) that presents Jehovah as being more than one person, or that Jesus is one of three persons, all of whom are Jehovah.
